Sneeze is relaunching flatoz now, including better spam prevention. Just wait a few weeks. In the meantime I'm deleting the buggers and banning them.

We have a few admins and mods already. I'm cleaning up spam after work each day, but soon a thing of the past [I hope] lol. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Until then I'll suss out the IP addresses a few of them are coming from and just ban a the whole IP range from the domain itself...or country they're coming from.
Can any mod that deletes a spammer just PM me the IP address they came from.

I've just blocked China from the domain as a temporary solution. Russia is also a problem but as China is the worst I'll see if there's any improvement.

Have also blocked Russia and a few other former USSR countries. Temporary fix.
If anyone can think of any users from any of these blocked countries let me know and I can unblock as required.

I was banning IPs for a while and cross checking them on stopforumspam.com, but it did fuck all. I entertained the idea of blocking out China and Russia altogether before like Ryan said he has done, but didn't have the know how (the netherlands was a big spam origin also)
Really hope we get the answer to it that I wasnt able to. Fuck knows I tried.

I'm blocking at the domain level. So all they receive is something similar to this...

As I said, just a temporary solution until something new is up and running.
Currently it's blocking a few hits every 2-3 minutes.

Just updated phpBB to the latest version and changed the captcha to Google's Recaptcha.
The main source of bots is now mainly via TOR gateways which are hard to IP block. Majority of Russian and Chinese has been stopped.

Just some interim patch job. From what I can see in the server logs we're now blocking a crap load of hits on the actual domain name before they even reach the website.
The majority of spam bots used to be from Chinese and Russian IP's which are pretty much gone now. The only ones that are left are from random IP's mainly in USA, England, Sweden, Germany and France. I don't want to block these countries of course, so then it falls to the new Captcha to stop them which is doing a bit better than the old one.
I'll try and tweak it a bit more if need be however if we're only getting 5 or so spambots sneaking through a day that's managable and we're doing better than the 20-30 we used to get.
My main concern is to develop something to replace everything so I don't want to put too much effort into what we have here now.
