I don't know whether I'm going to be able to make it to the jam now. My car is off the road & I am in the process of buying a bike so my money is going on that, so who knows I may or may not make it!! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Well, I think it maybe either a blown head gasket or crack in cylinder head or block, that's what my Gemini repair manual suggests anyhow.

I'll tell U what happened, I was coming home one day off the highway, & came to a stop at roundabout & then when I accelerated it was like it didn't want to change from 1st to 2nd gear,(It's an Auto), it was kind of fine when I got some speed up but when I slowed it sort of chugged along, I thought it might of been the Transmission, but the radiator is leaking I think into the oil.

Anyhow when I got home I let the car cool & there was no water in the radiator so I refilled it let it cool then came back an hour or so & went down the road, took a little bit to start but got it started. Then when I went to come home again it wouldn't satrt, there was no water again in the radiator, refilled it,let it cool, then took me for ages to get it started, finally got home & I haven't been anywhere since. I tried starting it again but I just won't spark, now my battery needs recharging, to try & have another go at re starting it.

Also the oil is fairly creamy!!If that helps!!

This all happened a few weeks back now, can't remember when.

I live Morisset area of the Hunter so I do need a car to get to this jam if I want ot go.

Correct. Most likely a head gasket. Depends on how long you drove it without water.

SOOOOO.....who else is coming up for this?

What other sydney guys? Glen, Campbell, Andrew, Vinnie, Alvin, Val, others...............who is coming?

I wouldn't say it was that long without water, I on;y went out that day & it was fine until I came off the freeway at Morisset.

Do U suggest I try & get it going to get it up to my Mechanics? I was very wary about getting it started & driving it just in case I blew the motor or something, because the motor has blown before back in 2000 which I had replaced so I haven't had this motor for long & I hardly go anywhere in the car but I don't want to risk it, 'cause I don't have the money to get it replaced. Yeh, it would be a headgasket.. it's leaking water out of one of the water jackets into an oil gallery... nothing really serious, the block nor head shouldn't be cracked unless you cooked the living crap out of it!!... bone-dry and driving like a typical gemmy hoon.. <!-- sWink --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /><!-- sWink -->

Hmm, all depends how far your mechanic is away.. but if it is emptying the 8 or so litres of water out of the radiator into the engine, after just a short drive (!) I wouldn't suggest it, unless is there just some small leak in a hose etc?

Nah, I'm no hoon that's for sure, like I said it was only that one day that I went out & it was fine until I got off the highway near where I live, but I'm just scared to get it going again, my mechanic is only up the road about 5km but I don't wanna risk it, I may have to get someone to tow me down there, but I ahve to get some money first to get it replaced.

Is replacing a head gasket a big job?, it doesn't look too complicated in my repair manual but I don't know why it costs a fortune to have it replaced at the mechanics, anyone shed some light?

Your right, it's not overly complicated.. Replacing a headgasket on a 4cyl g180 is a fairly simple straight-foward job.. however there is just lots of messy stuffing about.. dismantling the exhaust and intake manifold from the head.. then a manifold stud snaps.. you have to change the oil, applying gaskets to every part you have just taken off, etc, etc.. most of the work is just time-consuming and monotinous.. [Image Can Not Be Found] (this is what you are paying for when you take it to a mechanic..)

You have to have a torque wrench that's fairly accurate, to pull the gasket down to its proper tension a good set of tools and a mad bit of patience.. [Image Can Not Be Found] it would be soo much better if someone could help you do it!! surely you know someone that could help.

It does sound complicated, I no nothing about mechanics, I think I'll stick to computers.

I don't really anyone who could help me do it, we know our mechanic fairly well as he goes to our church but he would expect to be paid for the job, we were going to see if he can come around to take a look at it before I take it in to the shop.

I don't know, it would be really handy knowing someone who would do it for cost of parts!!
