pretentious isnt the word,i have a fixy shop about 2 blocks from my tattoo studio and some of the crap they go on about is like listening to a bunch of retarded art critics mouthing off,and dont get me started about the way they ALL dress (i ride a fixy to be an individual,my fucking ass u do!!!!!) the same and i dont know about you but i hated 80's fashion the 1st time around..My worst hate is when they come to our spot and do skids and do 1 handed wheelies to either fit in or annoy us!!! anyway thats my bitch....

Hey Mik,
How's it going? Shit you really got to stop selling your bike off!!! It's like you keep dying and coming back to life like your Rambo or Rocky or something.
Anyway - Are you still on High Street Thornbury? I know that store - it was just opening when we left. Didn't realise it was going to be a fixie store but I guess it fits...
I don't mind fixies but a lot of riders take too much credit for the discovery of something which has existed on BMX's since the '70's and in it's own right (as artistic cycling) for over 150 years. It's nothing new. Nothing original. And definitely not a commentary on post-war consumerism.
This is cool though. Imagine Martti on top of Viki's shoulders - or vice versa! In the days of Todd, Mitch, Sheedy and Ryan on the forums you could call out PHOTOSHOP and see these kind of fantasies. How about Simon wearing a pair of wings on top of Badman's shoulders???

On the flipside though - None of us created BMX either. Yes we have more bike control. Yes I'm confident that if I switched over to riding a fixie somewhere in the UK or the USA it would pay my rent and all my bills. I know a mediocre BMXer that is doing it right now actually. However, the guys I know well that ride fixies are totally normal people doing normal jobs. They're not 'artists' making 'art' - They're exactly the same as us. I get a pretty good reception from fixie riders - especially in Australia. The vibe that people throw out at IMAX is exactly what they get back in return. I'm nice to them they're nice to me - We even hung out quite a bit after riding. Some of the fixie guys from IMAX have asked me why some of the flatlanders are such dicks to them. What can I say? The truth? Unfortunately I left school too long ago to remember why I behaved like that as a kid.
Remember one very important thing - IMAX is a fucking massive spot. It's too big to need to share. If you feel like you're sharing then your head is too big.

Didn't Trevor Meyer run a fixed gear for ages? And that dude has some wicked backwheel pedal control.

There you go, the guy owns riding fixed gear setups.. I personally have never ridden a fixed gear. Or even seen a fixed gear bike in the flesh. But Im sure as shit it would help with doing some flatland stuff, yeah?
I don't get the deal with the 'bad fixie fixation'... So if some one runs a fixie instead of a freecoaster, it's bad? Is it the same with someone that doesn't run cranks?

Mik so what if they dress stupid and you don't like them. They are having a tonne of fun doing what ever they like to do and its not really impacting on you at all. I have found that they're pretty nice guys and are very kind, they reminded me of how I felt about the flatland scene when I first joined, how friendly everyone was and how they would go out of their way to give you a hand and hang out. They don't do skids or one handed wheelies to fit in or annoy us, they are just having fun. The one thing I like about fixed gear tricks is that the sport is still progressing because its so new, the first backwards wheelie and pedal deathtruck was done recently which is pretty cool. Ginny, most hate towards fixies is not because of them having a fixed wheel drive train but more about the people who ride the bikes.

Mik's opinion on fixie's is ok! we are flatlanders we always pick on the fixie's, mik has made no bold arguement to deserve this and with that said...fuck fixie's we own imax wether their there or not.....last thing i would do is argue with a fellow flatlander over fixie's...so shut up and get more involved in flat instead of the fixieation you have with them!
mik's just got back and your going to do this to him?
were flatlanders so start acting like 1 instead of getting involved with any fad's because they look cool....
100% dedication is what you need to start doing towards your fellow flatlander's, or you will be just a flat parasite!

I can have what ever hobbies I want to have, I still ride flat regularly at home, If I said I graffitied I know at least rob wouldn't complain even though its a huge fad among teens. I Just use my fixie to get around instead of public transport, I didn't get involved with it because it was a fad, I ride track on the local veodrome. How can we own imax? I know we've been there for ages but the unicyclists, roller bladers, street bmxers and skaters come as well. The spots huge, I find that its the pedestrians that walk right through a middle of your link then give you a dirty look. I'm sure Mik can deal with me having an opinion, he's not that sensitive that he'll quit flat again. In the end we are all still family and our small differences shouldn't come between us.

Ok guys my problem with these fixies is this......As we all know flatlanders in Aus is only small compared to the rest of the world. And personally when i left this sport in the late 80,s it was hard enough for me to find it again..I was looking for bmx freestyle and found out it had become flatland..And what was quite big in Austraila at the time..I never knew it how fast it would shrink..So i think we all are proctective with sport we love ..And the word Parasite is a perfect word for fixies...They take our sport build up these ugly shitheap bikes with a strange working hub (what ever happened to gears???)and try to perform crappy tricks meanwile getting in our way at I-max..There like inbred cyclists that dont fit in...Maybe if they stayed out of our way and kept to there own we wouldnt target them the way we do...

Yeah I concur with Miks Last post.
Wait Rob, why can't we be friends with them? its not some turfwar I'm generally happy with anyone who rides a bike. The hubs on our bikes are strange, free coasters are weird as well, what bike they ride makes no difference, Fixed gear riding has been around much longer than bmx has, track racing has been going on for over 100 years and they have been ridden on the street for quite some time. I'm not saying its better just saying that making arguments about them being parasites and so forth is wrong because they take nothing away from our sport

your the only guy here who rides fixie's and the only guy who give's a fuck about them, we are flatlanders and this forum is for flatlanders not "fixies" you choose your sport fad whatever, all in all i have no issue with them we just like too stir the pot because they are their!
you choose whatever you want too ride i really dont care, this is about you standing up for fixies when this is a flatland group, you want to do fixies then post in a fixies forum about it, no 1 here is slightly interested in fixies, that's why we flame them! we are "bmx flatlanders
my 2 cents on the whole issue. enough said......................fuck fixie's
