After some googling I found out Phil wood was responsible for starting the sealed bearing movement many years ago...
Also found out these hubs are heavy due to there being more material to create strength as I noted above...
He also passed away in 2010...
Basically it's like talking about standard bikes(even s&m) being the be all end all of bikes... [Image Can Not Be Found]
As much as I enjoy nostalgia, I love to see tech and new ideas flourish...

Phil Wood hubs - 313-366 grams for a flanged hub is not heavy.

I'm not seeing anything truly tech or new ideas with hubs these days - companies are just modifying designs from the 70's and 80's. G-sport and the majority of female hubs today are heavily inspired/copied from Phil Wood and Bullseye hubs from the 70
