When I roll backwards with[u:1niy5ruy] both feet on pedals[/u:1niy5ruy], the freecoaster clutch engages (i think thats what its called) and the pedals start moving [putting pressure on the forward pedal while going backwards].. is this meant to happen?

i thought the freecoaster wasn't meant to engage when you glide/roll backwards..

I have flatware twombolts (anti-seized them when I put my bike together last year) and a geisha lite freecoaster

hope I'm making sense.

OK so say I have my feet on the pedals and my bike is facing a wall. I then push off the wall and roll backwards while my feet are still on the pedals. Given that my feet are still on the pedals when I push off, are the pedals still meant to move?

(thats pretty much the format of one of my essay questions haha)

if you back pedal a little then roll backwards does it still do this???
maybe you not disengaging the coaster properly...
you need to always pedal slightly backwards to take pressure of the clutch to avoid
having the pedals catch in...

Brett hit it spot on.

With Geishas, think you can adjust the amount of slack (the play from when the clutch is disengaged to engaged) by the width if the washers that are included. Maybe the minimal slack washers are in there?

All Freecoasters need a little back-pedal though to disengage them before you roll back

so happy i finished my exams i get to practice flatland for the first time since august

Mr. Newcircle, do your half-link chains fit onto flatware sprockets tightly? I think my half-link chain is meant for bigger bikes because no matter how much i tighten my chain its always loose and now my rear wheel is mis-aligned

Yes - our half-link chains fit to Flatware sprockets without any issue.

Do you run a chain tensioner though? It could be your wheel pulling loose more so than the chain unless your chain is pretty stretched/worn out in which case you might need to replace it.

Thanks
Shane.
