After 8+ years of faithful service, my 1998 GT Show finally cracked (on a weld near the bottom bracket). So, I'm in need of a frame that's designed for a shorter rider - someone who's shorter than 5' 6".
As I've got no idea what sort of frames are available nowadays, can anyone recommend me a frame with similar geometry to the Show? Something that's got a nice steep (~76 degree) head angle, and (roughly) an 18.4" top tube, 13" rear end and weighs 2kg?
Cheers,
Campbell

I would say Quamen Delta 2 but it has a shallow head angle like 73.5 or so. 18.3 would be the go though.
Then I would definately say a St Martin Class X.
18.3TT
74.5HA
1.9kg
12.6-13" Chain stays
PIMP STYLE. You could get it from flatland fuel but if you are in a hurry im dead sure kickass bmx has one in sydney. You will have to ring them cause it might be a 19.4" TT edition. They do look fair awesome too.

[quote="flatnatics":2264scsl]one of the ares frames is about 18"tt and is really light too... maybe a delta 2 is another option with i thinks its 18.3" tt...[/quote:2264scsl]
That Ares 'Garuda' is ugly az I reckon, It's so small (17.8TT) way overpriced.. something like $400 USD -up!!! Yet the first batch all sold out straight away..
Eight freakin years Campbell?? fark!!! I think 'the show' deserves a proper burial at sea.. That is insane for an alloy frame.
I just wish my psychopower was a bit longer... I'm 6ft and I ride a 18.6tt... [Image Can Not Be Found]

Thanks for the recommendations everyone! I went back and double-checked the measurement for the top tube of my old GT Show - it turns out that it's closer to 17.9" - 18"! So, it's looking like the Garuda.. only problem is that they don't seem to be making too many more for 2007 (from what I've seen on the net).
The Hoffman and the Twenty seem too long.. what to do..

I just don't get the Garuda... I just don't get it. It has this horrible looking bend in the bottom tube and still offers no more scuffing space than a 'normal' double diamond street frame...

It weighs 1.6kg... insane....yes I know... ultra tiny... [Image Can Not Be Found]
Good luck trying to get one Campbell, start firing off some emails to Scott at Ares Bykes.

They're some good points about the Garuda, now that you mention it... the whole issue with the down tube, and having plenty o' wheelchair scuffing room, is one reason why I'm hesitant about going for the St Martin Class X (along with the top tube length being a little long to what I'm used to - I'm 5'5" fer crying out loud!).
Does anyone with a St Martin Class X have an opinion?

I think there is still a reasonable amount of scuffing room underneath. If you can get one that would really be the go for you campbell.
Im fairly sure nobody in Australia actually has a Class X. The only one i have seen is the one that was on display at the Kickass stand at the BMX Games.
If you want scuffing room, and a short TT i would agree with Rully and say a Delta 3. 18.3 is fairly short still and im sure you wouldnt be able to tell much difference in TT sizes. I think any frame will feel different to the GT.
Other than going an insanely priced and hard to get Garuda, its hard to go past the class x or delta.

maybe...
due to the ultra short tt, it pushes the bb further forward therefore the space left in front of bb decreases. the case gets worse as the frame has steeper HA (compared to,say, a delta and that if i'm not mistaken) which push the front wheel a bit backward. as you can see, having that massive curve on the dt doesn't look like helping. but without it, i'm afraid the tires will even rub the dt (not really...). so yeah, it's all because of the super short tt length i guess...
anyways, there won't be 3rd batch for Garuda. while the first and 2nd batch are already sold out.. so i think it's time to fire ourselves [Image Can Not Be Found]

[quote="Todd":3ktv2ggt]Let us know what you end up getting Campbell. Im sure we are all interested in what can replace the mighty GT.[/quote:3ktv2ggt]
Well, I ordered a St Martin Class X[/url:3ktv2ggt (18.3" top tube model) from flatlandfuel.com on Monday, and it's currently winging it's way to me via the infamous US Postal Service. It actually turned out (a fair bit!) cheaper for me to get it from flatlandfuel.com rather than a local bike shop.
I shouldn't have too many problems transferring my old parts to the new frame, with the exception of the Euro bottom bracket on the Class X - as the spindle on the Show's 3-piece cranks *could* be a little bit too big to fit in a "conversion" bottom bracket... hmm.. heard anything good about the St Martin Ecoflats, or any other 3-piece cranks?

yeah, it's incredible the level of mark up on it over here.
umm i'm not a 100% shure but i suspect thery use a 20mm spindle, although, this isn't the issue. can you tak a photo of the bare spindle? as i suspect it's got a largish shoulder, if there what i think they are you can get a 20mm euro bb, but it may require you to machine/grind this shoulder down. to clear the cup, and i beelieve it may not work with the bolt so it will require you to leave that off, an use spaces.
If you can get us a photo, and maybe some measurements?
Oppinions on new cranks, well i'm pretty happy with my thermals, just get yourself some loctite.
Don't know anything about the St Martins though, although, i'm not sure if i'd trust them, although, I have been a little hard on cranks though.
Justr my 2 cents.
