i wouldnt drill them out.
It will make the dropouts weaker.
And i was talking to a mate, and he knew someone who drilled them out and they bent like crazy.
if you consider buying it
14mm converters are the way to go
i just found out my rear axle on my gt isnt 14 mm :S [Image Can Not Be Found] its a 2.8 with an adaptor.

Nah you dont understand.
His axle is 14mm. The dropouts are 3/8". You cant use converters to go the other way.

ahhh sorry
i thought its cos you can get slotted 14mms
thats what i was thinking
my g7 can fit a 14mm
because i put my gt wheel on and used the chain tensioners from mt gt instead of the pops.
this confuses me so i just asked my good old mate rully.

please please please
do NOT use other tensioners than POPS that come with the frame or at least get another Quamen made. 14mm to 14mm for an instance.
why?
all G7's have wider drop out spacing than other normal frames. the gap is exactly match as if we add 2 Quamen tensioners to our wheel.
so if you insist on using other tensioners than the one come with your frame, you'll basically ruin your rear end. which is a pity for a one of a kind frame....

that cant be right, what about the width of the read hub? they arnt all the same size, so wont that also change the space avalable between the drop outs?
what would be wrong with the primo pros? they were also designed to run on the inside of the drop outs - any drop out
also, who the fuck uses chain tensioners anyway?

i did NOT wrote those words you quoted LOL
anyways, the standard rear end width is 110mm. normal taiwanese frames are 112mm, while Quamen uses 120-122mm.
i don't know anything about PrimoPros. but i'm sure they're thin enough to fit in those tiny space for normal drop outs space (112mm). therefore, they won't cover the extra 10mm difference on Quamen G7. if you insist on using other tensioners than POPS then you'll squeeze the G7's rear end to fit the hub width + thinner tensioners. believe me, you'll get nothing else than problems.
get it? my english screwed again...
and really sorry Andrew your thread was being hijacked...

yes they aren't. also if you decide to add just a super thin washer then your hub will also change in width.
but those differences are so small maybe 2-3mm for both side. this number -althought highly not to- is neglectable/ignorable (is that a word?). point is.. stay away from troubles, follow the rules.

i wouldn't normally give a shit about this discussion, but just my 2 cents in regards to the quamen, supposably they use a process where in a sense it's spring loaded by doing some 2 stage weld, where they weld then basically stretch it to the correct width, and weld solid. Now i would worry about it in this case if your playing around with a possible 8mm a side, and a technique to stiffen there back end like that.
But i wouldn't say it requires tensioners, you can still use an arrangment of washers to pack it up if your not going to use the tensioners.
In retrospect I believe you should always worry mildly, and as an above comment made, the width aren't always exactly the same, so I'd be using it in a thought when setting up [b:89p7nazz]any[/b:89p7nazz] bike, but in particularly the quamen.
and i don't see many hubs being 8mm to wide for a standard frame, because that is a quite significant problem, imagin trying to stretch a frame out that much? shure it's doable, but you can't tell me you can think it would be any good for the frame

this would probably be a rough comparison, not 100% accurate, but might give you a rough idea the diff your dealin with.

I can say this whole thing (rear axle axle spacing) is judged on what hub you use....
My Psychopower is supposed to be used with spacers (or tensioners) on the inside of the frame.... However, Pat must have used a nankai to judge this... My Power is used with a geisha freecoaster...
I run chain tensioners on the [i:2hi194hu]outside[/i:2hi194hu] with 2 paper thin 3/8" washers on both sides of the hub on the [i:2hi194hu]inside[/i:2hi194hu].... and when I put the the rear wheel in the dropout.. It fits soo snug and firm, that the tyre requires just a tap with an open palm to put it in its right position..
The way your frame comes from the factory should not be played with, keep the spacing the way it should be...
