So the Jomopro contest went down in the USA on the weekend. usual suspects showed up. Won. Stood on oversized Redbull cans etc. I really find these contests boring to be honest.
HOWEVER, the practice footage was totally rad and really showed the level of backwheel skills has gone seriously up a notch since Raphael Chiquet unleashed his new style a few years back.
Highlights for me are Tsotomu's mad ankle-breaker switch into the turbine cliffhanger and Ucchie's combo where he finishes in an unthinkable position on the pedal. so rad. I'm usually not a combos man because of the filler but there's very little in Ucchie's combo - some real hard switch done so stylishly.
Seeing Jean William-Prevost hanging in there with the pros is good too. He's not quite there but his time doing shows in China has served him well and clearly gets him dialled. There are heaps of better riders out there in the underground but he's the only one in the last few years who has really pursued the contest thing, gotten dialled and broken into the ranks. More power to him.
Anyway. If you haven't seen it check it. Ucchie's combo is super radical.
