Judges chose top three from the jam and they got 5 goes each to bust their hardest stuff. They were allowed to hit the rail, the bank and bust on the ground. They are all tech riders and it was difficult to decide upon the winner. Judges wrote down their order anonymously and the decisions were averaged. Hayden had a lot of variety and did some difficult hang five and fakie stuff on the flat as well as using the rail and the bank.
So points wise from this contest:
[b:2bkcpvxc]Advanced[/b:2bkcpvxc]
1st Phillip Fruh (Germany) - 227pts
2nd Andrew Lightbody (Sydney) - 208pts
3rd Andrew Mcdermott (Perth) - 205pts
4th Mike Brandt (Perth) - 203pts
5th Shaun Jarvis (Perth) - 168pts
Judges in advanced were me, Campbell Lee and Rhys Mason. Having just worked out the scores I can see that it was so close and there were a lot of mixed opinions. Sometimes it does feel like comparing apples and oranges.
[b:2bkcpvxc]Pro[/b:2bkcpvxc]
1st Mao Yuasa (Japan) - 222pts
2nd Takayuki Iwa (Japan) - 217pts
3rd Paul Chamberlain (Sydney) - 213pts
4th Yuho Funabiki (Japan) - 184pts
5th Rhys Mason (Sydney) - 176pts
Judges in pro were Vinnie Pugh, Campbell Lee and Shaun Jarvis. It was a lot closer than I thought at the time. I had a bit of a shocker but was the only rider in field to do backwheel stuff which must have kept me in there on the variety front. Again, it's what I love about flatland.
Overall - a good comp! Stoked to be going to Melbourne in August to wrap up another series!
