[quote="riderforlife":3apsn6ci]well i would say that flatland need to have the same hype as street....
just because flatland is not as "popular" as street(park) dont it mean that it need to be shut out some where in the back of beond.
agree or disagree.
i have spoken to freestyle bmx about the area and they have yet to confirm but i will be speeking with them next week when they have got more info on the bmx games.

"making sure that the flat comp is set right" means that the flatcomp is run well judged well formated well and set up well.[/quote:3apsn6ci]

IMO - "hype" is less important that space. there is no point "hyping" something if there is no space for the riders to prepare to justify the "hype" around them. i know i would much prefer a dedicated space that we could all ride on all the time rather than being in the middle of the street corse for 90 mins for the whole weekend

do you think the event can be well set up if it does not have its own dedicated space?

what was wrong with the judging (apart from the time it took to work out the scores last year) the am comp ran fine, the pro comp was fucked cos heath had no idea what he was doing. same with the bomb trick comp. what are your ideas that are different?

i'm not asking you to justify anything. all i ask is that you be clear about your plans, lay them out in plain english, dont use phrases that mean nothing. tell us exactly what your intentions are and if they dont work tell us why. i know that more information and discussion would make me feel a lot better.

brett - check out http://www.bmxgames.net all your questions should be answered....

mick super valid point, perhaps someone from the event management group could explain to us the reasoning behind the timing and the location? But I doubt it...

ERRGGHHHHH, Bomb trick was fucked. There was no order, only chaos. Lack of knowledge of the actual part of it and commentry was no help. Was like,

"OK that does it for the flatland comp, were gonna work out the scores now........

Oh we got the bomb trick as well...."

yes, i know this, but thats not the scorings fault or that of riders or the events. that was very clearly the fault of the event manager and him not knowing what he was doing and not delegating control to someone who did.

agreeed about the hype verses area deal.
spoke to shane today and we are on the same wave lenth.
if all are happy im willing to announce the flat comp apart from my own run.
i announce all the comps that i promote here in w.a. can do so really well (my head is now very large) but seriously i can do the job of that well.

contest and shows is what i do for a living here in perth and i am able to help with the flat comp. (professional job)

if you want to know my intentions for the flat comp

to make sure it is run in the most professional way to keep the riders happy and the spectators intrested.
to make sure the prize purse is the right size.
help with getting the contest format right so all is happy

Hey fuck the comp.
My weekend last april was awesome based on everything that happened as a periphery to the comp itself.

I mean obviously without the comp the weekend wouldn't have happened but there's no point kicking up static about it because the weekend itself is still gonna happen.

Having said that I do agree that it could have gone much differently, but unless we're all the kind of riders who would get invited to circle of balance (and this isn't to take anything away from anybody) the format of a comp really isn't going to affect shit as far as our abilities to compete within it.
At the pro level at the bmx games, they're not getting the turnout to make it worthwhile investing that much effort into. Obviously it's kind of cause and effect but we got what we got because of the way flatland is in Australia.
You can wag fingers at people all day but at the end of it, flatland is small here and we're a long way off from having a KOG. Why not appreciate the fact that as small as we are, we *do* get an opportunity to have the kind of weekend we had last april and support that ideal?
Fuck, you might even find that kind of attitude is way more beneficial to the sport...

Props to everyone who is putting in their efforts to make the comp better for us, but it seems like the prevailing attitude is that they somehow owe us something?
I don't get it. Both sides have a lot of work to do, but we're all very much still teething.

See you all there for another awesome weekend brought to you by flatland bmx.

Glen.... that is spot on 100%

Ever since the very first time I went to a comp, what appealed to me most was that ALL the riders that were there rode together, hung out and shared stories, swapped tricks and had a good time. the comp was basically a way (or excuse) for everyone to get together. For some of us, this is the only time friends get to hang out for the whole year in one spot and ride.

on the contest front... the better it is organised/run etc, the better the turnout and in the long run, hopefully, the better it is for flatland. I'm fully aware that you can't please everyone all the time, but hopefully people will remember the comp weekend mostly for the fun and the riding, not for the judging, the area or the organisers.
