Hi guys,

I'm building a mid school bike for the fun and sentimental side of bmx. And I'm about to by an old TerribleOne Barcode frame that had been powdercoated.

Now with the facts that the guy is telling me, I'm not sure if the frame had been sandblasted. The guys seems honest, as he bought it secondhand also, and he's not %100 sure if the previous owner sandblasted it either.

Is there a way to look at a frame to see if it had been sandblasted?
Would sandblasting get rid of the half moons in the welds?

Any info would be appreciated. Haha Im not a fan of sandblasting/ sandblasted parts.

Fritz

Various media types are utilised when sandblasting - some can be very abrasive and may change the welds. Subsequently such media would possibly cause damage (or rough texture) to the tubes (or surrounding area) as well as the welds. Soda blasting is less abrasive and is preferred for more delicate metals and items.

Could you provide any photos of the bike - close up shots?

If it was blasted/powdered by a professional then I doubt they would have gone too abrasive on it. Is there any chance you could get the details of the powder coater and ask them what type of medium they are using. The paint doesn't look too thick so i'm sure the metal undereath would be fairly smooth to achieve that result; possibly indicating a less abrasive technique/medium was used.
